Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacher
5.0

AMELIA UNABRIDGED at its heart is about two young people trying to figure out how to move forward after life-altering loss, and it is beautiful! Amelia has just graduated HS with her best friend Jenna and they are looking forward to summer and then college together. But all those plans change when Jenna is killed in a car crash in Scotland.

Nolan Endsley is the young best-selling author of The Orman Chronicles book series that Amelia and Jenna are obsessed with. They intended to meet him at a book festival in California, but Nolan backed out at the last minute because of his depression and anxiety. The publication date for the third book in his series keeps getting pushed back until it falls off the calendar completely.

Soon after Jenna’s death, Amelia receives a special edition of The Orman Chronicles that’s not supposed to exist; it’s the 101st edition of 100 copies. It came from some bookstore in Michigan. Thinking this is some message from beyond the grave from Jenna, Amelia tracks down this bookstore and ends up finding Nolan Endsley. Together they share their fears, regrets, and grief. Ultimately, their friendship (and books) helps them each figure out how to move forward.

This story carefully paints the pain of grief, which anyone who has lost someone close can relate to. The characters grow and have hope at the end, but their grief isn’t gone, making it realistic. I absolutely love it.
