Who Could Love You, Astor Price?
by Amy Jane Lehan
Thankyou to the author for providing me with a copy of this book to read and provide an honest review.
This book is about Astor Price. She is sixteen, pansexual, lives with her alcoholic mum and her father who doesn't intervene. She hangs out with her best friend Megan and occasionally Dylan. When she goes on a date with Matty, she is raped and then the rest of the book is how Astor copes in the aftermath.
This book. This book, although a hard read content wise, is a very important read. Firstly, please check the trigger warnings before reading this book as it includes rape, emotional and physical abuse, self harm and suicidal thoughts, drug and alcohol use.
I just wanted to give Astor the biggest hug. Astor has an incredibly hard home life with her mum physically and emotionally abusing her when she is drinking. Her mental health is already struggling but then the rape adds more. However, she relies on her friend Megan who does their best to help Astor. Megan is amazing and I am glad Astor was able to confide in them. Dylan is also another friend that tries to help Astor. Everyone one else in this book is the worst.
This book is extremely well written. Astor was a well developed, strong character and sadly I think a lot of people could relate to an aspect of Astor's life and thoughts. The whole book was incredibly realistic which is also really sad. This book is hard but the end brings hope which for a story like this, I think is incredibly important. This book will be important for many out there and I highly recommend giving it a read (just note the trigger warnings please).
