Poverty, by America by Matthew Desmond

informative reflective medium-paced

“We could just about fill the entire poverty gap in America if the richest among us simply paid all the taxes they owed”

I feel like most are not shocked by the fact that America has higher rates of poverty than any other advanced democracy in the world. Being poor is neither a crime nor is it a failing in moral character. The author digs in on the facts and delivers a powerful argument. Incredible piece of work in the weight of its statements, and the fact that it addresses the socioeconomics in a way that still keeps the readers engaged.
