Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson

2.0

A light-hearted easy read until I got to the bit where Michael, a suitor says about the woman he loves, '...obviously she needs a little physical correction...' without anyone upbraiding him, and then they all go on to talk about whether another character is a 'dago' and how he isn't 'fit to be in the presence of a white woman'. I know I should judge books by the time they were written rather than now, but it put me off. Perhaps I just don't enjoy farce and happy implausible endings!
