Any Trope but You by Victoria Lavine

adventurous funny lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

3.5

Margot is a romance author who doesn’t actually believe happily ever after exists in real life. When her readers discover this, she gets canceled. Her sister decides that she should go on a writing trip to Alaska, where she can also try to rediscover herself.  There she meets Forrest, the property owner and former doctor who seems to experience one romance trope after another with her.  Margot might be convinced that romance can actually have a happily ever after with Forrest except for the family obligations that they each have.

This is a really enjoyable debut that is fun-filled and packed full of romance, spice, and tropes.  I loved the Alaska setting and wilderness elements of the story, such as hiking and being snowed in.  I really liked Forrest as a character, because he fit that caretaker role for a MMC that I love.  However, some of the story felt a bit over the top with pop culture references and requiring a lot of suspension of disbelief.  However, it’s a great escape for a rom com that feels like a mountain getaway and a fun love letter to romance tropes.

Thank you to Victoria Lavine and Atria books for the arc and opportunity to be an early reader and reviewer.
