Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead

Absolutely wonderful. I would say that anyone who's ever felt lost and not quite connected, whether that's happening to them now in adulthood or now to them in junior high, needs to read this book. Clever and heartfelt. I'm buying this one for Finn now, along with Stead's other books, even tho it will be a few years before he is ready for them - I just want to know they are here waiting for him, they are that good. Very highly recommended.

*In the morning, the cafeteria smells fried and sweet, like fish sticks and cookies. But after lunch, it's different. There's more kid sweat and garbage mixed in, I guess. Or maybe it's just that, after lunch, the cafeteria doesn't have the smell of things to come. It's the smell of what has been.*

*But I eat the hot lunch. I figure that life will have its share of dry bread, and that when there is meat sauce on the table, I should eat it. And I do.*
