This was originally supposed to be a novella and honestly it still could have been. I found myself skimming a good chunk of this book because it just wasn’t interesting. Big picture for the series, this wasn’t necessary. We got nothing significantly new out of this. A lot of the middle could have been taken out and just done bigger time jumps. I mean a good portion of this book happened all in the same year.

I liked the beginning when they were separated and would talk to each other through their mind connection. This was really the only time where it felt like they had a real connection. I liked bits and pieces of the middle. Then the end was the most interesting but it was also a complete repeat of the memory we got in the second book. I was hoping for more insight and more detail to play out with the ending. But we just got the memory version all over again.

The impression I got from the two books was this intense, other worldly, love and relationship. But honestly all I got from their relationship in this book was him just being obsessed to the point of ruin and her constantly being against everything he and his people are. If it weren’t for their soul mate bond I’d tell you they are very incompatible. Given the time period, his people being nomadic warriors it’s just very naive to be so against battle and war to the point you shame your husband for doing what is natural and expected. It took forever for her to get something that resembled a backbone but it still wasn’t enough. She internalized too much and didn’t speak up enough.

I definitely prefer Selene over Roxi. Selene is more of a fighter. At least Roxi was reincarnated into a better version of her.
