The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts
by Maxine Hong Kingston
I ended up liking this book a lot more than I thought I would when I started it. It’s a beautifully ugly story of a Chinese immigrant’s experience in America and with immigrant parents. I (obviously) could not relate to Kingston’s experience, but by the end of the book, I got her intention in writing it and understood her struggle and experiences. The magical realism interspersed with her memoir was such a unique way of writing however, for her experience as a Chinese woman, worked wonderfully.
