Finn and Una’s story is dark, intense and mesmerizing. Who can resist a hot, sexy and possessive protector? Admittedly, Finn is a morally grey character, but when it comes to the woman who stole his heart when she was only eighteen, he is a big teddy bear. To her, he shows his tender, romantic side on occasion, though most often his possessive and dominant side is in full force. Even when Una puts distance between them, in a mistaken attempt to keep him safe, Finn makes sure she is protected at all times. He also makes sure she has a venue to pursue both of her passions, singing and top notch training in hospitality and hotel management.
An incident with her brother forces Finn to put aside a promise he made to Una’s father, a loyal employee who saved his life. Her brother’s entitlement issues and resentment of Finn lead him to align himself with a very dangerous criminal and organization set on eliminating Finn and the syndicate. Then a health crisis with a treasured friend and family member forces Finn and Una to realize that life is short and time with a loved one is not guaranteed. She finally sees that keeping her distance from Finn is not the answer, and she goes to him when he is the one in need of support. Unfortunately, her brother and his dangerous new friends are escalating their efforts to cause trouble, so much so that Finn is forced to call on other syndicates for their help. Then his worst fears become reality. Una is taken and he must find her and rescue her quickly or he will lose her forever.
I loved the instant attraction between Una and Finn, the way he waited for her to grow up, their intense chemistry and the intrinsic connection they have formed between them. I love that they are both protective of each other and are willing to put each other’s needs before their own. Finn respects her enough to be honest with her, even in matters that concern her treacherous brother. It was wonderful to have Roman, Aldo and Luca make an appearance in support of Finn and his organization. Their mutual respect was admirable and not usually seen in books featuring the mafia. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Niall and Anna, the young woman he helped rescue.
I wholeheartedly recommend this absolutely entrancing book.
