This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. The linguistics-based magic system is brilliant. The characters were well developed and likeable. Amazing message about racism and colonialism in academia. Would recommend to anyone, but especially anyone with experience in rigorous academics.
Graphic: Racism, Xenophobia, Cultural appropriation, Colonisation
Moderate: Child abuse, Misogyny, Classism
There is one scene towards the beginning of the book with explicit descriptions of a father beating his son It never happens again.
