Faking Christmas by Cindy Steel

5.0

Yes, I know that Christmas and the holiday season were over a month ago, but I wanted a winter book, and a Christmas book in Vermont usually has winter weather.
Faking Christmas is my first five-star book for 2024. Until now, I have read ok books.
Olive & Miles are a beautiful couple; they are enemies because of mass communication. Olive was a very relatable heroine for me. She's a people pleaser and is always willing to sacrifice her own needs for others, making her a bit of a pushover. She also sees the hero, Miles, as her rival at work. Miles, on the other hand, sees right through her facade. He teases her relentlessly and eventually teaches her to live a little.
There were so many parts that I laughed out loud and absolutely enjoyed the swoony between Miles and Olive. Olive is grieving her father's death and is having a tough time accepting that her mother remarried so fast. The fake relationship that becomes real is due to Miles's work helping Olive open up and accept life and live it to the fullest.
I like that Cindy Steel didn't have a last-third break-up scene; it is fresh air.
Yes, Faking Christmas is the third installment of a standalone companion series. Even though I usually read series in order, this time, I didn't mind because each book is by a different author. I would go and look for the first book of the series and read it in July (as Christmas in July).
This kind of series makes me read new authors, and now I want to read more by Cindy Steel
