The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
4.0
“Everyone’s a little crazy. Some people just hide it better than others.”

There are heavy, not high, exceptions for every final book of a series. Especially your favourite one and The Mara Dyer trilogy is my favourite. With this trilogy the stakes were even higher, since the first book raised about 300 questions. I was worried when I learned that the final book is about 500 pages. I thought it would only work if she spent the whole book giving answers.
My main concern is that 1) She wouldn’t answer all the questions which would lead to plot-holes 2) romanize it. Don’t get me wrong Mara and Noah are my favourite book couples, but Mara herself was so fascinating. I worried that either the whole book is about her grief or her love to Noah. She had to get herself together. Find her own.
[Spoilers ]
I feel like we sort of saw it coming and that disappoints. I was hoping for this huge plot twist or a different explanation. I just didn’t understand the need to feature Lukiumi. Honestly I feel like we could’ve done without. We already had too much happening.
Mara developed beautifully. I don’t think I’ve read anything as haunting as her presence and tale.
Noah-wise. Oh Noah! I just love him too darn much. I do adore that Noah was actually made for Mara. As much as I adored how Noah-like Noah’s mother is with her charm and character, I just don’t understand how mother not want her son just to be who he is and to be happy. I was disturbed by her letter and the pressure she put on him.
I love how beautiful the past and the present intertwine. The grandmother being raised by the Shaws
And absolutely love the ending how the actual books are made for others like Mara to find them. That was brilliant.
I’m still wrapping my head around it and that’s why I haven’t got much to say. I’ve waited for this book for so long. I’m still out of it.
I’ll leave you with this “The password: MaraShaw”
