The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
5.0

The Covenant of Water is one of the most moving, beautifully written novels I’ve read in years. I haven’t read a generational saga since Lonesome Dove and the Thorn Birds that touched me so deeply. Abraham Verghese has created a sweeping story that is both intimate and epic, carrying you across generations with grace and depth. His themes are profound and the characters feel so real that they stay with you long after you’ve closed the book.

While every storyline held me captive, I found myself especially drawn to Digby. He was my favorite character—complex, flawed, and deeply human. His journey was written with such compassion that I couldn’t help but feel invested in his struggles and triumphs. Digby added both heart and gravity to the novel, and I often found myself lingering over his chapters because I didn’t want to leave his world.

This is a book that will stay with me for a long time. It’s not just a story—it’s an experience, one that invites you to reflect on love, family, faith, and what it means to endure. I can’t recommend it enough.
