Invincible Iron Man: Ironheart, Volume 1: Riri Williams by Brian Michael Bendis

3.0

I'm struggling to explain my rating here, Riri as a character and this whole plot is A+. I love Riri, I think this is a fun new entry into the Iron Man mythos. However it's Bendis... He's a fine writer but I wish anyone else had written this. It feels kind of bad to have a middle-aged white man writing a teenage black girl, especially her backstory. Plus it's lots of Bendis speak and the first 5 issues cover just one day in Riri's life, fine I guess but I'm not a fan of that Bendis style of decompressed story-telling. I'll read more of her adventures when the next trade is out, but I just wish anyone else had written this.
