Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead
3.0

Not quite the ending I had hoped for. For starters, the half-sibling mystery was extremely predictable. Of all the options Richelle had for Lissa's secret half-sibling, Jill was a pretty mundane choice. It really made prolonging this mystery for half the book rather pointless since virtually everyone knew it was her. The strigoi that turned Dimitri would have been a better choice. There was some definite hints in Blood Promise and Spirit Bound that he was harboring a secret and they were all more subtle compared to all the obvious hints she dropped about Jill. Richelle really wasted a golden opportunity with Nathan. A strigoi that holds a grudge against the Dragomir family would have been a far more interesting choice than a 15-year-old whom Lissa thinks has a crush on Christian.

My other issue is how unbelievably selfish Rose becomes. I was a Rose and Dimitri shipper until this book. It was obvious from the start that Dimitri was the one Rose was going to choose, but I thought cheating on Adrian was one line she wouldn't cross. Her attempts to justify cheating on Adrian by bringing up his vices and his refusal to straighten up his act for himself caused Rose to lose a lot of points in my book. For a girl that kept demanding Adrian act more grown up she certainly handles her "relationship" with Adrian quite immaturely.

The only things that are preventing me from rating Last Sacrifice a "2" is the conclusion to the mystery of Tatiana's murder and the fact that Adrian didn't die. I expected the killer to be Daniella since, like with Jill, Richelle was practically painting a giant neon arrow in Daniella's direction. So the Tasha twist was the one thing that I enjoyed.

But overall, I found this to be a very unsatisfying ending to Rose's story. I really hope Adrian and all the friends Rose used to get everything she wanted get their happy endings in the spin-off series. They all deserved better .
