Great and Horrible News: Murder and Mayhem in Early Modern Britain by Blessin Adams

3.0

A quick and interesting account of nine early modern murders. I wish there was more said on overarching connections between them and how they were investigated. Felt like a series of short stories. But still eye opening about historical attitudes and prejudices, easy to draw connections with how we act today and look at true crime. I wish Adams had done more of that analysis for us.

Also a worrying lack of references? I am reading a proof copy so there may be some in the final publications but the writing does not feel very scholarly….it would give her conclusions more weight if we knew how she drew them.

People have always been batshit <3
