This was a great length book for me to listen to as an audiobook - a little long that I'd be reluctant to read it physically with my ever growing 'to read' pile, but essential reading nonetheless. I liked the pacing of it, and found the family dynamics incredibly realistic and they provided moments of genuinely sweet levity in an otherwise reasonably heavy going storyline. For a YA book tackling such big topics, it didn't feel at all patronising, or twee. I'm glad we have it on our school library's reading list as I think it's important for young people to be aware of the prejudices and injustices that certain communities face. I would highly recommend this book to teens and young adults.
