This was an okay read for me. The book was very slow and the characters were pretty one dimensional. I think the book would have been a bit more believable if the author would have made Duchess a little older. The way she behaved and talked was more like a 15-16 year old instead of the 13 year old she was presented as. I am also not a fan of how many characters were able to avoid taking responsibility for their actions not matter the reason. Someone should have told the girl what truly happened...she will go through her whole life hating the wrong person for the death of her mother. Also, what happens if the boy ever remembers that he killed his mother by accident. Neither would be prepared for the mental fallout from that. . I will say that the author did manage to surprise me in the end even if I didn't like the ending.
Graphic: Cursing, Gun violence, Self harm, Suicide, Blood, Grief, Death of parent, Murder
Moderate: Child death
