Misfit in Love by S.K. Ali

4.0

I am so glad I decided to read it again because I enjoyed it A LOT! Yes at times it was heartbreaking but overall pretty enjoyable with all the wedding festivities and other things.
Muslim representation was ON POINT! like her oyher works S.K. Ali was unapologetic as usual and I LOVE HER FOR THIS ALONE! These days no Muslim writers care for halal and haram touch but she always put this in order. Love love love it!

Some things which I absolutely loved.
Janna eventually finding out that her life is more than relationships and guys. Yess! You go girl!
Janna and Muhammad's friendly relation with their step brothers and step mom. It is rare you know.
Fun movie nights and fun girly nights.
Zaynab and Adam's cameo.
Muhammad and his kindness.
Muhammad and Janna's relationship with each other and their mother.
Talk on racism in Muslim community because it exists in abundance.
Janna and Sarah's relationship.
Janna and Tats. Tatiyana's cuteness.

Some things that didn't sit right with me, I think it is just me and you have the full liberty not to heed on any of these below mentioned stuff because I decided to ignore them as well and they didn't effect my ratings. But I think I will write them out here nevertheless.
There were too many characters. It got confusing. At one time I forgot who Khadija was.
I think racism and anti-blackness weren't elaborated much. It needed more evaluation because this thing is rotting our Muslim society from its roots.
Nuah's cowardice in telling Janna about a certain something was fully blamed on racism and I don't think this was just it.
Susan saving her sister and her child from her abusive husband. I needed details because without them it sounded absurd. She was sort of caged in Saudi Arabia for crying out loud so naturally I needed more on this.

Overall it is a really good book with top notch Muslim representation so yeah go read it!
