Circus of Scales by Constance Roberts

4.0

3.5. First of all, I LOVE dragons, so this book was right up my alley. Constance Roberts is excellent at world-building. Her lush descriptions of settings make you feel like you're right alongside the characters throughout the story. The main character, Ivy, is strong-willed and pure-hearted but stubborn, which is a combination of traits I enjoy in my heroes. The dragons are awesome; the author's imagination really shines when she describes the different kinds of dragons and their relationships to humans. They have a unique and important characteristic that sets them apart from other typical dragons you have read about, which I found interesting and it fits well into the plot of the story. The only thing I was looking for throughout the novella was a bit more tension. That being said, the story is not over, and I know for a fact that more tension is to come in the second installment. Book 2 seems to be from the perspective of a different character, and I love getting to know other characters on a deeper level. Looking forward to the sequel!
