Did I enjoy every second of this book? NO.
Do I believe is still worth the read? The jury is still out.
This YA fantasy is not for the faint of heart, it is dark, gory, gritty, and full of morally grey characters. The Japanese myths 🤌🏽
Ren - I have complicated feelings for Ren because I completely understand her. She was neglected as a child made to feel unloved, and then shunned and bullied by her peers at every turn for being mixed -British/Japanese- she had so much unprocessed trauma and hurt that she legitimately did not realize how that darkness could ultimately hurt the ones she loved the most.
Neven - Ren’s brother was her complete opposite, so selfless always caring for others -including animals- and he was done dirty, yes at times he was frustrating because he was just what you would think of a Reaper. He did not deserve the way that Ren treated him, nor the way his life ended, or did he?
Hiro - The god of Fishermen was sketchy as hell.
I will continue to the next book.
