First, the cover image is gorgeous and arresting. I love it.

Next, I did not really think I would like this book--I sometimes don't love fantasy books, and the blurb sounded really serious and solemn. But, I liked it a lot! It's only got a little bit of fantasy element, and the story focused on the character(s). The protagonist was very realistic and definitely had flaws, and I was really invested in her story. It wasn't exactly a comedic one, but it was far from solemn. A great, easy style to read.

As the book drew close to the end, I started wondering/worrying that it was going to turn out to be the first in a trilogy and nothing would get resolved. Happily that was not the case, though the opposite then happened--the end felt wrapped up too quickly. And dare I say I almost hope there would be a follow-up book? I liked getting to know all of the characters and would love to see what happens to them.
