President James Buchanan: A Biography by Philip Shriver Klein

3.0

Very well written. Interesting times, but it was very hard for me to find the compassion the author was attempting to manifest for Buchanan. He finally came across as a man who was devoted to the Constitution, but believed that congress and strict construction guide the path that the president takes. Then when confronted with a conflict that put those beliefs to the test he suck to his honor and let the country fall apart around him.
