Inconsistent pacing is my main complaint with this book compared to the first. It definitely has its moments, and overall does an excellent job keeping you invested in the many characters. The character arcs throughout were, for the most part, satisfying. Actions certainly do have consequences!!
The twist at the end was relatively surprising, but I don't know if that's because it was a good one or because the book spends so longpushing you in one direction only to yank you back the the other way right at the end. I'm not entirely sure I liked it, since it felt so much like the ending to Mistborn that I almost wish it had happened way back then. I guess the whole point of the book is that every action towards the greater good is worth it, even if it seems futile. Still, I got whiplash. Looking forward to getting some answers in the third installment.
