Kept me guessing, and seconding guessing all the way to the end.

Belladonna started off a little slow for me. It was an intriguing enough concept that I wanted to keep reading but it wasn't until about a third of the way in that it really started to grab me. This is a murder mystery fantasy with death magic. The way that the story and mystery unfolded through Signa's investigation was fantastic. I am constantly trying to figure out the twists in a book (and regularly can) but who the little hints and even misdirections were done had me going back and forth between thinking I had it figured out and then second guessing everything I thought I had worked out. It certainly made the book hard to put down, particularly in the last third of the book.

I also really enjoyed the character development in this book, and the unravelling of the reasons behind some of the characters choices. The dynamics between Signa, Sylas and Death were great. The romance was well done with a speck of heat in there. I am definitely invested in where the rest of the series goes.
