Nimona
by ND Stevenson
Very good tbh. A very short and tight read overall (like 1-2 hours) but they build up the characters and the different moments so well it’s definitely extremely well-written for what it tries to be.
Edit:
Reread Nimona and it’s fucking fantastic. The focus on loyalty within relationships, the way Blackheart is willing to kill for Nimona, Nimona’s inexplicable nature as a metaphor for queerness, the split between her child self and her monstrous self as a metaphor for trauma creating unhealthy coping mechanisms to protect an inner child, the importance of reaching out to people you care about in spite of their monstrosity — all of this hits very hard. Honestly kind of a fave ngl.
