We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

4.0

What a hoot! Some combination of the Marx Brothers meet a mystery coupled with PG Wodehouse, chicanery, and all around "Whaaat?!" Other than that, a staid ;-) story of murder but not quite mayhem.

Richard Osman knows how to spin a murder mystery that encourages the reader to laugh and chuckle even as bodies are being brutally killed. It's a testament to his convolutionary (my word ;-)) skills that following the story line requires paying attention or making a list of who's who and drawing interconnected lines (no, I did not do that). With that said, I had an inkling of one person who might not be so innocent (I was correct) but, like my husband, had no idea of the identity of the other person till close to the end of the story. (My husband read the book first.)

So who are these people populating the story? Amy Wheeler works for a private security agency (come to think of it, you could consider it a Consumer Protection agency of sorts…) and her father-in-law, Steve Wheeler, is a retired policeman recently widowed. Rosie D'Antonio is a famous, very wealthy author of indeterminate age who, at the story's start, is being protected on her private island by Amy. How the three of them wind up on a wild romp around the world is what the story is all about, and far be it from me to deprive you of the nonsensical fun of reading it for yourself!

Enjoy.
