5.0
- Medium read (6 hours)
- The exploration of addiction and recovery felt unrealistic since it never impacted Beth for most of the story. The narrative screamed male author.
- The excellent highs and lows resonate with me as a chess player and as someone with a mental illness. I devoured this book and it left me motivated and smiling. The accuracy of the chess content was appreciated. The complex characters are immersing, whether or not they're major characters.
