Blood to Dust
by L.J. Shen
I buddy read this book with Ari. :)
I've been seeing this book around Goodreads. Since, I'm still in the mood for dark mafia-themed books I gave this one a try. I dive into this blind and after reading this book, it left me with mixed feelings. I like L.J. Shen's writing style. It's good and I like the way she writes her characters. The main characters, Prescott and Nate/Beat are broken, ruthless and unreliable. Their lives are messed up in the most fucked up way. Nate/Beat's task is to keep an eye on Prescott for days while waiting for Camden (Prescott's abusive ex.) to claim her. He's doing this as part of a deal he had with Godfrey in exchange of protection.
I struggled getting into the story and I almost had a reading slump because of it. Also, it's not as dark as I have expected and it lacks the thrill and excitement. No mind fuck twists. The characters are pretty strong after all the harshness they endured and they do deserved a happy ending. However, I didn't like how it ends. It made the characters weak. It's a HEA story but I think it could have been better and more twisted.
