5⭐️ alert!!!! Oh wow, this is my favorite fiction book of the year so far. I cared about Edward and his journey so much, I still think about him and this book weeks after finishing it.

Edward Adler is a typical anxious 12 year old moving across the country with his family when a pilot error causes the plane to crash. Edward is the only survivor of the entire flight. He now must live with his aunt and uncle as he grieves his family, struggles with the trauma of the crash, and begins life anew.

While this book begins with tragedy, this novel is full of hope, found family, and honoring those you’ve lost. Napolitano structures the book brilliantly: we jump from Edward’s current life back to the plane, getting to know and love different individuals on the flight. The dual timelines are captivating and illuminate how much we don’t know about those around us upon first glance. She is a phenomenal writer, certain sentences took my breath away. I also openly cried at a bar reading this so beware hahaha. If you love character driven novels of quiet beauty, get your hands on this book now!
