“It’s a gift if it makes us better. It’s a curse if we let it destroy us.”

Starting my year with this book has got to be the best decision I could’ve taken. Absolutely everything about this book screamed perfection: the writing, the characters, the plot. And the plot twists in this book? FLAWLESS.

The book has three main points of view:

- Essun, the oldest among them, who just discovered her sons dead body. He was killed by his father after he learnt that he is an orogene, which leads to Essun leaving to find him and her daughter.
- Damaya, the youngest, just discovered that she is an orogene and is now being taken to the Fulcrum for training.
- Syenite, she has lived most of her life at the Fulcrum and is now being sent on a mission with a ten ringer orogene.
