Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving
2.0
Ugh, with the constant reminders. This book should have, and could have easily, been half its size, and it would have probably been so if the constant harkening back to points already mentioned was edited out. Before even reading the Afterword, I could see that this was Irving's not-so-secret attempt at showcasing his own writing style, which frankly became annoying. Also, this book is bad for your diet, because he constantly talks about delicious food and how to prepare it (one of my lesser points of contention, obviously). I particularly disliked how there weren't really any surprises. Everything happened exactly as we knew it would. The ending in particular was wholeheartedly disappointing in how it was so "perfect" for Danny. And I have to ask - how the hell would Ketchum know what to do at the end? Danny had to ask a doctor before he even found out, and Danny was a lot smarter than Ketchum. And wasn't Charlotte pregnant with Danny's kid when they were together? But then the kids were suddenly her new husband's? Something there seemed to get lost in translation for me.
