Tilly and the Lost Fairytales
by Anna James
I almost gave up on this several times, I just wasn't feeling it, and I ended up being kind of annoyed at it. It's so much like so many other children's books, although I love the idea of bookwandering, but the premise of this book is the basic "adults are kind of stupid and all about due process so the kids rattle off into breaking rules and fixing things with the help of one wacky adult who turns out to be misguided and the other adults were right except oh wait, they weren't". I get tired of that. Couldn't there for once be a wacky adult who wasn't disastrously wrong? Or some reasonable adults who weren't also disastrously wrong? Or why can't the kids be smarter? I know, I know, this is an unreasonable rant, lots of books aren't like this. I just feel like I've read almost this story so many times.
