I wasn’t a fan of reading from the POV of a character who was as confused about her situation and the rules of her world as I was. I’m not sure what was going on or what the abilities of the Reapers are SUPPOSED to be, especially when it came to understanding the ways that Christina was supposedly “different” or “more dangerous” compared to her peers. I know this was meant to be a precursor to the main series and was likely written AFTER the main story, just as a little snippet to explain how Beth’s situation came about, but as a new reader to the series starting at “ground zero,” I would’ve liked to at least understand what it is that the Reapers are capable of, as far as Beth understood it. And also a little more about how Christina was different, from Beth’s own POV. It left a lot to be desired, but I’m interested enough that I’ll still pick up the series to get my answers and hopefully some more world-building.
