Blood and Steel: Legends of La Gaul by Steven L. Shrewsbury
5.0
A gory, delightful romp!
Steven L. Shrewsbury has been compared to Robert E. Howard--I've done it myself--and it's once again an apt conclusion. Gorias La Gaul may not be as well-spoken as Conan, but he's a heck of a lot more fun: bawdy, bloodthirsty, and with a mile-wide streak of black humor about him.
This collection is the starting point for all things Gorias, from his infancy and boyhood to his legendary status as a shrewd and hardened 700-year-old warrior. The melding of cultures and mythologies is skillfully done, and I'm really hoping for future stories to fill in the chronological gaps!
