I will admit that picking up this book was two-fold for me. First of all I just love Kurt Vonnegut, so after hearing his son interviewed by Diane Rehm I thought, ok I'll read his book. I also am intrigued by literature on mental illness, so I thought I'd give it a go.

I must admit that Mark Vonnegut would obviously have a lot to live up to as a writer because he is Kurt's son. So with that knowledge I have to say this book was well written, though at times I did feel like there were some awkward phrasings (and maybe some grammatical errors??) which I feel an editor should've caught! :)

Other than that, it was a very honest memoir about a child of a famous writer, and his struggles (as well as his family's struggles (with mental illness.) He spoke with such clarity about schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, as well as working through his episodes to become a pediatrician. I thought it was well done and nicely detailed, though I have one major question about this passage he has about extroverts! :) I'll post a link to my blog when I do a longer post about some recent reading and thinking I've done on mental illness.

I also have to say, he has the same wit as his dad!
