A Warm Heart in Winter by J.R. Ward

4.0

The only reason this book is getting 4 stars from me is because of how much I love Qhuinn and Blay. While there was a lot that happened in this book, it seemed dragged out and thrown together almost as a I know everyone misses the OG characters so let’s bring them back for a bit.

This book starts off with a terrible blizzard. Qhuinn and Blay are up to their normalness. They are fighting the big bad and taking care of the good peeps. Everything is going well until tragedy strikes- Qhuinn’s older brother Luchas is missing. They find his remains outside after the blizzard. He couldn’t deal with the heaviness that was his life anymore. He writes Qhuinn a letter. Qhuinn shuts down and shuts everyone out including Blay. In the letter, Qhuinn realizes that Luchas had decided to go against the norm that was his fate. He was in love with a human woman. Qhuinn and Blay meet her and get to give her closure which is HEARTBREAKING. After this, Qhuinn realizes that he and Blay are not officially mated which promptly makes him realize this needs to happen ASAP. This is how the book ends- on another HEA ❤️ Like I said not a lot happens but what does happen is tragic and brings the characters that much closer together after a period of heartbreak.

Part of me wants to keep reading this series because I am so far down the road but the other part is realizing there is such a similarity in these books now. I am looking forward to reading Nalla’s book though. How does that timing work? She is like 2 in the book I just read but apparently the next book in the series coming out next year is about her and her mate???
