I liked the book. An easy read and doesn't get too melodramatic like some young adult books I've read (mostly bad ones by YouTube stars). I like that it almost sets up an alternate history where curse working supersedes race based discrimination.
On a related note, whoever approved the cover art and audiobook narrator clearly didn't read it. I know it’s not til about three quarters through, but it clearly states that Cassel (who I assume is meant to be featured on the cover) is not white, which is described specifically as ghi having brown skin in a later book. All I’m saying is that the voice I hear when I think first person narration by a POC from New Jersey is not Jesse Eisenberg.
