Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse
4.0
For a "religious-story" type of book, it was actually pretty insightful.
Going into this knowing virtually nothing about buddhism, this book was a pleasant surprise, as it had a good mix of both educational, and insightful metaphors. I didn't particularly like the depiction of Siddhartha in this story, just because I wasn't fully understanding why he felt the need to embark on such a journey with no real goal. He so easily threw away a lot of what he had spent learning over many months just because he suddenly understood life in a deeper meaning. IDK maybe I just don't get the entirety of the story of his upbringing and life, but it just felt so unnecessary to me, ESPECIALLY, in the beginning of the book. The actual life lessons he was touching on throughout each chapter are some that I have never really though into, so it was refreshing to get to boggle them over in my mind after reading each. It felt like a maze in my head, an I wanted to them solve sooo badly. This book was really a thinker.
Overall, this book is definitely a 4/5.
