A definite must read, there are so many Alice in wonderland versions but to have a version on the Queen of hearts it was just awesome. loved, loved this book. and recommend it highly.
Update: I felt I should have given a little more than the above.
To me this is definitely character driven but the world in my imagination that followed Marissa's writing is just what you would expect from an Alice in wonderland retelling, but do not let this fool you this isn't about Alice and her nonsensical world this is how the Queen of Hearts came to be.
There is romance not necessarily unrequited but more like La Douleur Exquise, it is adventures and adorable but will also break your heart I laughed and cried. I saw the Queen of hearts in a way that makes you understand her and have a deeper compassion. This is by far one of my favorite books of all time. I have the physical book and the audiobook and both are just amazing.
I will always recommend this if I could give it a rating of 10 stars I would.
