Over My Dead Body
by Jeffrey Archer
Over My Dead Body is the fourth book in the William Warwick series by Jeffrey Archer. Fills a big gap between the third book and the fifth book of this series. The story from the novel is of DCI William Warwick when he follows and moves around the world that brings him across continents while following justice and in quest to end his personal life full of complexities.
.
Storyline: The book starts with a mystery on a cruise ship, which leads from a seemingly idyllic vacation for Warwick and his wife Beth into a mysterious death that sets Warwick back into his detective mode. The intrigue flows out of the bounds of the cruise as Warwick leads a new Cold Case Squad within the Metropolitan Police. Masterly interweaving of multiplex storylines is the hallmark of Archer, so deftly that one barely notes it: the pursuit, for example of the elusive criminal mastermind Miles Faulkner, apparently dead but whose doings continue to haunt the investigation.
.
The strength of this novel lies in the fast-moving multi-layered plot, working on new cases on one level and Warwick's ongoing vendetta against Faulkner. Archer's detailed narrative style immerses the reader in the story as Warwick's travels through Europe bring him new allies and deepen his determination to solve both fresh and cold cases.
.
While more than capable on its own, new readers will feel a bit dizzy from the moderately complicated backstories and returning characters, though Over My Dead Body is a great read to find one's link to Warwick's ultimate conclusion and does some crucial groundwork for the awaited fifth book.
.
Suspenseful and fun, this book has excellent character development and good pacing, epitomizing Archer's impeccable storytelling and leaving the reader wanting to know what comes next in Warwick's saga.
