Utterly devastating and beautiful all at once. I love how Morrison weaves together all the figures of Pecola’s life, their histories, traumas, predilections, and how they ultimately affect this little girl. This is her world after all, and she has so little control over any of it, which leads to the tragedy that plays out ultimately. I also especially loved Morrison’s reflections on the text that were included at the end of this audio book. Hearing her talk about exactly where this idea and these characters came from is fascinating and grounding.
