For Elise by Sarah M. Eden

5.0

If I could give this book six stars, I would. When Miles' and his best friend Elise's fathers are both murdered when he is nineteen and she is fifteen, Miles goes into shock. He doesn't remember much about the next year, but he does remember one thing: Elise disappeared. For four years he has yearned to know where his greatest childhood friend went, and why. So one day, when he finds her, living in poverty and begging scraps from local store owners, he knows that he must help her. So he takes her back to his home where he and his sister Beth and Beth's husband are currently living. But Elise has changed in the four years she has been missing. She is cold, and turns away from Miles. Will he ever regain her trust, or will she suffer in pain and fear alone? I have absolutely adored all of Sarah M. Eden's previous books and I absolutely adored this one too. In order to win back Elise's trust, Miles would go to the ends of the earth. The things he tries are so tender and loving that it could only mean one thing, that he loves her. But in his mind she is only his friend. His best friend. And it might take awhile to discover otherwise. The romance in this book is perfectly balanced with suspense and danger, because the murderer from four years ago is back and scarier than ever. I doubted Sarah M. Eden's ability to write a mystery, because all she has written previously are romances, but she has outdone herself. I honestly couldn't be more happy with the details, balance, and plot of this book. I loved it!
