A Lick of Frost
by Laurell K. Hamilton
Wow! So much happened in this book. I am loving this series, but THIS book is my new #1!
Frost is a favourite of mine and the title A LICK OF FROST promised more backstory about our Jackie Frost, I was not disappointed, we got lots of Frosty time in this instalment.
As I said I am loving this series but this book in particular was just right for me and I just rushed through it, everything seemed to flow and as always the descriptions were gorgeous. I just love the way the Seelie and Unseelie Courts are described. Every room has a new revelation, sometimes good sometimes not so.
The dynamics between Merry and her men continue to change in this book. There are some heart wrenching/emotional scenes I warn you now.
SPOILERS!!

The departure of Frost was the saddest part of this book for me (my favourite!!!). I of course despaired over this but in some ways I actually liked that not everything went too smoothly for Merry. She has so many beautiful men (although she has given up Nicca to his true love which I was very happy about — true love wins!). But why why did it have to be Frost?? But there is hope that he could come back! Fingers crossed!
The two attacks were very well written and full of nail biting suspense. The second made me afraid for Merry which is a feat for a heroine that you KNOW is going to be around for the next 3 books (because they are waiting on your bookshelf).
THE PREGNANCY!! I have been waiting for this since book1!! I thought the reveal that her sickness was morning sickness was well done, I am usually watching so hard for any pregnancy type symptoms that I can see through any ‘oh it is just the sniffles’ fake outs but the fact that Merry is part mortal and so the fact that she can get mortal sickness is a very big plot point so I missed it. Making the reveal that she was pregnant all the more awesome.
I am still not sure how I feel about the twins parentage. It just seems a little to convenient that Merry will be Queen to more than one King. I was waiting for her to have to choose only one (the father of her baby) and wondering what the consequences of her choice would be. Would the men go back to being royal guards? How would Merry herself react at not being able to love more than her King? What would happen when the guards started finding other romantic partners? I was looking forward to the angst dammit!
Anyway this book was just awesome. Go and read it right now.
5 Stars - Loooved this book. This whole series is right up my alley.
