I loved Legends & Lattes and was eager to read this prequel. The first book was fresh and funny, with interesting characters who had unexpected problems, but I didn’t like the second book very much.
For me the book felt flat. The characters were lovable because they were the good guys, but I never felt any connection to them. I was really disappointed that I found this one so lacking because I’d enjoyed the first book so much.
Despite these misgivings, I really liked the last battle scene in the book - it’s exciting and fun. The character of Satchel is clever and I appreciate that his qualities aren’t revealed all at once - he can still surprise us though we’ve gotten to know him.
A third in the series will be coming out soon and I’ll probably read it because I like the characters.
