Master of the Abyss by Cherise Sinclair

3.0

I didn't love this one as much as the first book in the series. Kallie and Jake were good together, very strong and fiery. I just didn't relate to them as much, I guess. Also, the play started pretty hard core pretty early in the story. the whole group/ public sex thing is still gross to me, too, so that's always distracting. and I didn't like the sections of the book told from the Watcher's perspective. I hate giving voice to murderers or other villains. I'm not saying the parts were badly written. without them, I'm not sure the serial killer aspect of the story would have worked. I just liked the first book, sans serial killer, a bit better.
All this grumbling sounds like I didn't like it--not liking it as much as I liked the first one doesn't mean I didn't like it, though. I read through this in about 2 days, and mostly enjoyed it. Just because I didn't love it like Master of the Mountain doesn't mean it's bad. It was still a fun and interesting read (full of a bunch of stuff I don't think I'd ever want to try). And of course, the mountains and wildlife and pets figure into these stories in a beautiful way. the sense of setting is very strong, and the main characters are all the more human and likable for their interactions with kids and animals. not sorry I read this. Cherise Sinclair has me hooked.
