Tallora and Dauriel own my whole heart! I was seriously wondering how they would recover from the events of the last book. And man, things do get worse before they get better. SD Simper knows how to write some pretty dark, intense shit! But she's also a master at pulling me back in with sweet and tender moments as these characters try not to dread the end, but to appreciate the journey while they're still on it. The ending is simply perfect, and man oh man am I glad that SD Simper literally has a Patreon novella called Aftermath, because I would indeed love to know the aftermath of what happens in this book.

Even if that novella didn't exist, though, I would be totally happy with this conclusion. It was a satisfying end for one of the best trilogies I've read in a very long time, and I need to buy the boxed set of Sea and Stars ASAP. My favorite bi mermaid and the lesbian empress determined to leave a legacy both deserve a special spot on my bookshelf. <3
