Enchantment: Awakening Wonder in an Anxious Age by Katherine May

4.0

I have not yet read Wintering, so I have nothing else of May's to compare this to, and I have to say that I found this series of essays absolutely beautiful. I paused regularly to savour her words, and I often felt as though I was looking at my own thoughts, exposed. This was especially true early on, and though the feeling faded a little as I read, I remained interested throughout. I was a bit nonplussed by the organization into Earth, Fire, Water, Air - that felt a little forced to me - but when I stepped back at the end to take in the whole thing, I realized that I was leaving the book with a sense that wonder is, in fact, possible; not a bad takeaway.
