Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke
by Eric LaRocca
dark
tense
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
Character
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
No
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Ending was very abrupt, little character development, and the "disturbing" things felt they were more there for shock value than to serve any narrative purpose. Still a decent read, though.
Graphic: Animal death, Body horror, Death, Gore, Toxic relationship
Moderate: Cursing, Excrement, Gaslighting
Minor: Miscarriage, Pregnancy
I counted it as "body horror" since I don't know how else to describe it, but there's a scene in which the protagonist eats a maggot-infested piece of steak, gets violently ill, and gets a tapeworm from it. She thinks that the tapeworm is a "child," which explains the "pregnancy" and "miscarriage" tags.
