I was not sure what to think of this book when I first started it. To be honest I had a couple of false starts. I didn't think it was going to be my type of book. But finally I just sat down and pushed myself and I am very glad I did.
This book is dark and gritty. The world it creates is not a pretty one. But it is an interesting one. The strange creatures of the Misery were always interesting to be described and sometimes even the normal world was just as scary as what could be found in the Misery. The politics of the world took me a little while to figure out but by the end it all felt familiar.
What really made this book is the characters. Galharrow was fun to read about but I loved everyone in the book. Nen who always spoke her mind or the calculating Ezasbeth who always seemed a step ahead of everyone else. They are what defined this book and I cannot wait to see what the characters will get up to in the next book.
